Tiled Oak Orangery with Sunken Lantern

Ferrier

Oak framed orangery with sunken lantern

“A fabulous space that allows us to enjoy the garden all year round. There is nothing better than being in there with snow on ground and the wood burning stove alight.”

This striking Orangery project has completely transformed the dynamics of the home. Originally having only two small windows to view the garden, meant it felt totally separate, now the living room, dining space and garden are as one.

Our bespoke design of full height glazing on three elevations, including two sets of bi-fold doors, completely blurs the boundaries between the home and garden.

“The Bothy as we call it, now allows us a great view of the garden and feels as if we are sitting right there in it”

After the initial complimentary design consultation at the client’s home, an appointment was made for a tour of our Show Site and manufacturing workshops, offering the ability to see, feel, touch and smell the Oak, which helped confirm that it was the perfect material for the Ferrier’s extension project.

The project is stunning, by extending over previously unused flowerbeds the Orangery is surrounded by greenery and entirely immersed with nature!

As with all our extensions the importance of natural light is key and roof lanterns are a great way of encouraging light into the centre of a room. A condition stipulated on the planning permission approval for this project meant that the lantern must be hidden externally, resulting in a bespoke sunken lantern design. Dropping the lantern down between a cavity in the roof created a subtle external view when paired with sympathetic roof tiles, blending the extension with the existing home, appearing as if it has always been there.

The sunken lantern design internally still provides the WOW factor of a feature lantern, showering the room with natural light.
